It is that time of the year!
Apple picking time!
Two weekends ago, my friends and I spent part of our afternoon out enjoying the beautiful fall weather at a local apple orchard called Apple Valley Orchard. We picked 10 pounds of apples to bring back to campus with us, and we ate a bunch. So, I am not sure how many pounds we picked total, but it was enough for 5 college girls 🙂
Unfortunately, after arriving on campus, we opened up the trunk to our car, and about half of the apples rolled out and fell on the pavement. The bag had opened when we were driving back. So, about half of our apples were bruised. But, we were still able to make microwave applesauce! Yes, we made microwave applesauce. It actually works. My friend Bree found a recipe! When you do not have a kitchen, a microwave works just as great as a stove. We peeled and cored the apples, cooked them in the microwave, mashed them with a fork, added some sugar and cinnamon, and let the sauce cool in the refrigerator overnight. It ended up tasting good!
During our adventure, besides picking apples, we took some fun pictures and shared lots of laughter. Being around my friends is always a joy, and there are so many special moments that come from those times. For this adventure of ours, my special moment / favorite memory was trying each of the different apples from the trees with the others. Each tree had an assigned tag to distinguish between the different types. However, we did not read the sign that explained what apple type each tag correlated with, so we had to taste test each tree and attempt to figure it out on our own. Some of the apples were obvious such as Macintosh, but others we were not so sure of. Despite now knowing, if we liked it, we picked a bunch of that kind and put it in our bag! I also asked my friends what their favorite part of the trip was, and these were their responses:

Please, please, please get out and enjoy the fall weather! There are so many fun things to do outside, and apple picking is one of them!
